By car, we will leave Puerto Vallarta towards a small town called Las Palmas, where we’ll hike along the Carboneras River to reach Las Palmas Waterfall — our favorite waterfall in Puerto Vallarta. I’ll bring delicious and fresh snacks to enjoy during the hike. We’ll be hiking about 3 miles each way through the jungle on steep and uneven terrain — this experience is only for experienced hikers. The Sierra Madre is a beautiful, lush, and green rainforest filled with mountains and biodiversity. Home of the Green Macaw, it’s a must-visit for nature lovers visiting Puerto Vallarta. Completely out of the touristy area, this is a truly authentic jungle hike where we’ll cross the river a few times, climb a mountain, and swim at the stunning base of the waterfall. Make sure to dress properly for this hike (see my list of recommendations). Bring your swimsuit and enjoy the fresh, clear waters of the Carboneras River. The trail varies depending on the season: from July to January, the jungle is lush and shaded; from February to June, the weather is dry and sunny. At Playa Las Ánimas, we’ll have the chance to stop at a local restaurant where you can enjoy delicious seafood (not included) from the region. From there, we’ll return by boat at no extra cost. This experience is good for couples, families and groups. Please ask for availability if traveling solo. We will meet in the morning in Zona Romantica to get to know each other and take a city bus to Boca de Tomatlan (30 minutes south), Boca is a small beach town where we will take our boat (Water taxi) to Yelapa. Yelapa is a beautiful and colorful town away from the city, is only accessible by sea, we will travel by the sea for 40 min, if we are lucky we can see some marine life. Upon arrival in Yelapa we will stroll the village to get a feel of it, with its picturesque streets, we will tell you its history and traditions, we will visit the main waterfall in town and if you are a hiker we can hike up to "La Pilona" a small waterfall with a beautiful natural pool that is located on top of the main waterfall, here you can enjoy a fabulous panoramic view of Yelapa and cool off in its waters. Then we will walk back through the village and cross the river to head to the beach, where we can take a break at one of the beach restaurants and eat lunch (availble for purcharse). We will meet in the downtown area of Vallarta to take a city bus to the southern area of the Bay, in the small fishing town of Boca de Tomatlan we will begin a private boat trip of approximately 45 minutes along the coast by a local boatman with many years of experience. Upon reaching the area known as Majahuitas, we will have a small class of how to snorkel, then we will feed the fish and take a dip to swim with them (we will lend you the necessary equipment, you will not have to worry about that). After at least 45 minutes swimming with the fish we will take the boat to reach a little visited pristine beach where we will spend the rest of the morning swimming and relaxing, here you can enjoy a delicious snack that we prepare ourselves. To end our day we will take the boat and make our trip back to Vallarta by city bus again.
